That said, the four pieces here are genuinely well-crafted cosmetics. The Rougarou is a reskin of the Mosin Obrez, Hunt's compact bolt-action pistol, themed around the Cajun werewolf legend of the same name. Once Bitten drapes the Lebel 1886 Marksman in the aesthetic of a scarred hunter who learned to never let enemies get close again. Blood Moon reimagines the Auto-5 shotgun under a full-moon motif, and Midnight Howl gives the Caldwell Uppercut a haunted, predatory look that fits the bayou atmosphere as well as anything Crytek has produced. All four lean into the southern Gothic horror identity that makes Hunt: Showdown 1896 one of the more distinctive-looking shooters in its genre. The weapon art direction is cohesive across the pack in a way that many cosmetic bundles fail to achieve. Context matters here. Hunt: Showdown 1896 itself is a demanding, slow-burn extraction shooter where teams of up to three track down monster bosses across sprawling maps, extract the bounty, and survive firefights against rival hunter squads doing the same thing. Every death is permanent for your hunter. Every bullet costs you. The base game carries a Metacritic score of 81 and sits at Mostly Positive on Steam across a very large review pool, which for a game this punishing and niche-adjacent is a strong signal. The 1896 relaunch in 2024 brought a CRYENGINE upgrade, the Mammon's Gulch map, and a push onto current-gen consoles, and Crytek has kept updating it with seasonal events through 2025 and into 2026. The game has legs. The Wolf at the Door, released in April 2021, predates that relaunch but carries forward fully. These skins work in the current version of the game, and the weapons they reskin (the Mosin Obrez, the Lebel Marksman, the Auto-5, the Uppercut) are all viable picks in actual matches. Cosmetic DLC in Hunt has no gameplay effect, which is the right call for a game this competitive. What you are buying is the look. If you run the Uppercut regularly and want it to howl at the moon aesthetically, Midnight Howl delivers. If you do not care how your guns look mid-firefight, this pack will not improve your session. Bottom line for anyone browsing: this is a cosmetic DLC for a game that rewards patience, map awareness, and a high tolerance for losing hunters you spent time building. The Wolf at the Door does its job cleanly within those boundaries.
