Already sold on Chai's rhythm-brawler chaos? This cosmetic pack dresses him up and hands you 20,000 Gears so you can spend less time grinding and more time shredding.

I'll be straight with you: this is a DLC pack for one of the most purely enjoyable action games in recent memory, so the base question here isn't really about the pack itself. It's about whether you've committed to Hi-Fi RUSH and want to go deeper into it. If the answer is yes, read on. If you haven't touched the base game yet, close this tab and go buy that first. Hi-Fi RUSH is a rhythm-driven character-action game from Tango Gameworks, a studio previously known for survival horror. The pivot could not have been more jarring on paper. In practice, it produced something that plays like a mashup of Devil May Cry and a Saturday morning cartoon, where every enemy, elevator, and environmental prop pulses in sync with the soundtrack. Combat rewards you for landing hits on the beat with extra damage and score multipliers, but it's forgiving enough that players without a musical bone in their body can still get through it by pure button enthusiasm. The skill ceiling, though, rewards players who lock in. Gears are the in-game currency you use to unlock new combo strings, companion moves, and chip upgrades for protagonist Chai, including things like omnidirectional parries that generate health on successful blocks. The upgrade tree is wide enough that a Gears head-start genuinely changes how early you can access the good stuff. That's where the Deluxe Upgrade Pack becomes worth talking about. The 20,000 Gears included are not a purchasable in-game currency by any other means, so this is not a pay-to-win situation in the traditional sense. Gears drop from combat and exploration naturally. What you're buying is a shortcut through the early grind, letting you dump points into higher-tier combos or reverb-gauge expansions before the game would normally hand you that budget. For players who want to experiment with builds from stage two rather than stage six, that's a real convenience. For completionists who enjoy the grind loop themselves, it adds less obvious value. The cosmetic side of the pack covers two full Chai outfit sets, seven bonus t-shirts, an 808-themed guitar skin, and an 808 alternate character skin. The outfits are mix-and-match at the piece level, meaning you can swap the jacket from one set with the trousers from another inside the Hideout hub. Given how much personality Hi-Fi RUSH's art direction carries, the extra visual variety is genuinely pleasant. The 808 guitar skin fits the game's cel-shaded aesthetic well. None of this changes how the game plays, and that's honestly fine. Hi-Fi RUSH's weakness, where critics noted repetitive level design and occasionally clunky platforming camera angles, is not something any cosmetic pack is going to fix. What it does is let you style out while you're doing the thing you're already doing. Bottom line on this pack: if you're planning a first playthrough and want a head-start on the skill tree plus some outfits to rotate through, it's a tidy bundle. If you've already cleared the campaign and unlocked most of your upgrades organically, the Gears are a moot point and you're buying cosmetics only. Assess accordingly. Alex, Scout Team
