Galactic Civilizations I Ultimate Edition
A 4X relic where the Ultimate tag just means the expansion is bundled in. Great for patient turn-based veterans, punishing for anyone used to modern strategy UI.
GamerScout Verdict
Only for 4X archaeologists who want the original Stardock AI and can forgive a UI that never got modernized.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About Galactic Civilizations I Ultimate Edition
The store page sells this as the definitive package, and on one narrow point it delivers: Ultimate Edition means the base game plus its expansion content in one install, no hunting for missing pieces. Where it does not match the pitch is the word ultimate itself. There is no remaster here, no UI pass, no quality-of-life patch layered on top. What you get is a 2000s 4X preserved as it shipped, and the Mixed 50% Steam rating (against a Metacritic of 83 from its era) is almost entirely the gap between those two facts. As a package it is honest at least. The expansion is real content, not a wallpaper pack or a soundtrack folder, so nothing here is shelf-filler. The problem is that Galactic Civilizations II and III exist and do the same tech tree, diplomacy and ship design ideas with menus that do not fight you. Buy this if you specifically want the original single-player campaign, the AI that made Stardock's name, and you accept clicking through a lot of 800x600-era screens to get it. Everyone else should start at the sequel.
