The honest framing here is that this is a head-start DLC for a free-to-play game, and you should think about it that way. The base game has over 200 fish species, 27 waterways, and an active multiplayer community that runs events and leaderboards, with the 2024 Ocean Update expanding the content pool meaningfully. That is a lot of game to enjoy if the grind is not your idea of fun. The pack does not unlock everything, and long-term players will still hit the progression wall further up, but for someone who wants to skip the credit-farming phase and actually explore the map variety, the value is concrete and immediate. The fishing sim genre is niche by definition, and Fishing Planet is the most fully-featured free option in it. Whether this specific pack is the right buy depends on how far you plan to go with the game. If you played two sessions and got frustrated with gear costs before reaching any interesting water, this pack solves that problem directly. If you are still on the fence about whether the simulation style clicks for you, spend time with the free version first before committing to any DLC.
