GamerScout Verdict
Experimental co-op shooter with clever gadget mechanics but dated execution, try with a committed squad or skip.

About CTU: Counter Terrorism Unit
I went in expecting a tactical Counter-Strike flavored experience, but CTU is more experimental than that. You lead squads through arrest-focused missions with gadgets like snake cameras for reconnaissance, which is a genuinely interesting layer most shooters skip. The five-player co-op backbone is solid in theory, and workshop support suggests the community could flesh out content. Here's the problem: the 2016 production values show everywhere. Hit registration feels loose, AI teammates lack nuance, and the mission variety dries up fast. It's playable in groups if everyone's on voice comms and patience is high, but there's nothing here that makes it worth grinding through the rough edges when competitors like Insurgency or Ready or Not exist. Niche appeal for tactical co-op diehards willing to overlook technical debt.
