Contra Anniversary Collection
A nostalgia hit that bundles the series' best 8-bit runs, but emulation quirks and a brutally punishing learning curve mean this isn't the gentlest way to revisit run-and-gun classics.
GamerScout Verdict
A faithful vault of run-and-gun classics for series devotees willing to master patterns and memorize cheat codes.

About Contra Anniversary Collection
I fired up Contra Anniversary Collection expecting a straightforward time capsule, and what I got was the real deal: the arcade originals, the NES port, Super Contra, and a handful of sequels all in one place. These are relentless side-scrolling shooters where pattern recognition and frame-perfect timing matter more than firepower alone. The Spread Gun trivializes bosses, but finding it is half the fun. What works is obvious if you lived through these games: tight controls, screen-filling enemy waves, and level design that respects your reflexes. What doesn't is less forgiving. The emulation feels solid, but there's no difficulty slider, online leaderboards are missing, and the UI is bare-bones. This is pure preservation, not a lovingly remade package. If you're hunting the definitive Contra experience or want to finally see what the hype was about, grab it on sale. If you need hand-holding, the Konami cheat codes are your lifeline.
