Circle Empires: Apex Monsters!

Twelve minutes into a run I had a stack of archers, no melee frontline, and a circle to my east holding a giant spider den. I pushed anyway, lost the whole stack in about eight seconds, and spent the rest of that run rebuilding off two woodcutters. That is the loop here: bite-sized circles of territory, each with its own resources and monster garrison, and a constant read on whether your current army composition can actually crack the next one or whether you need three more minutes of income first. Clearing a circle snowballs you into the next, and the Apex Monsters expansion content leans hard into that with beefier boss-tier targets that punish sloppy comps. Where it falls down is the opposition. The AI opponents never contested my expansion, never raided a thinly defended flank, never once made me regret overextending. Threat comes from static monster camps, not from a thinking rival, so the strategy is really solitaire optimization against a puzzle. Take it in 20 to 30 minute sittings and it is a genuinely smart little palate cleanser between heavier campaigns. Marathon it and the shallow decision tree shows through fast.
