Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) Windows Store Key
Fifteen-plus years later, MW2 2009 still draws players back for a reason: its multiplayer loop and Spec Ops co-op hit a ceiling the franchise spent a decade trying to re-reach.
GamerScout Verdict
Best for players who missed the 2009 peak or want Spec Ops co-op, go in knowing multiplayer needs a workaround to shine in 2026.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) Windows Store Key
I've put more hours into this game than I'd care to admit to a therapist, and the honest takeaway is that Infinity Ward nailed the formula so completely in 2009 that the industry spent the next decade photocopying it. The campaign is short, loud, and gleefully over-the-top, running roughly five to six hours on a standard difficulty pass. It will not make you rethink storytelling. What it will do is throw you across a Brazilian favela, a snowbound Russian gulag, and a burning Washington D.C. suburb in quick succession, each level scripted like a Michael Bay action reel running slightly too hot. You play primarily as Sergeant Gary "Roach" Anderson, embedded in Task Force 141 and chasing a nationalist villain named Vladimir Makarov across some genuinely spectacular set pieces. The story is conspicuously nonsensical, but the moment-to-moment movement and gunplay are tight enough that most players finish the campaign without noticing. Where the game earns its legacy is in two places. Spec Ops is a separate co-op mode featuring over twenty objective and time-trial missions, some pulled from the campaign, some built fresh, some callbacks to Call of Duty 4. One standout scenario has a player in an AC-130 gunship raining fire while a partner navigates the ground below in real time. It is 2009 co-op design at its most inventive, and it still holds up with a friend. The star-rating unlock system gives Spec Ops its own progression ladder that keeps you coming back for a few evenings beyond the single-player credits. Multiplayer is the part critics and players alike have argued about for fifteen years. Create-a-Class Evolved let you mix primary weapons like the SCAR-H or ACR with secondary shotguns, handguns, launchers, or riot shields, combined with a perk stack and killstreak rewards that escalated from UAVs to care packages to Predator missile strikes to a tactical nuke. The breadth of customization was enormous for 2009, and the killstreak loop created exactly the high-stakes, snowball-or-survive tension that kept lobbies alive for years. Perks were not balanced perfectly, Stopping Power in particular drew endless debate, but the gunfight fundamentals underneath all the perk noise are crisp and satisfying in a way few shooters since have replicated cleanly. The honest caveats for a 2026 buyer: official online multiplayer infrastructure is not what it once was, and the PC player base operates in a split state between the standard lobbies and third-party solutions like AlterWare for a healthier matchmaking experience. Campaign and Spec Ops remain fully playable and are worth the entry on their own. If your goal is competitive multiplayer with consistent lobby fills, you will need to do a small amount of homework on the current server situation before committing. Family Sharing support and Steam Cloud saves are present, which helps for co-op setups. For a genre fan asking whether the 2009 original still has juice: the campaign is a weekend afternoon, Spec Ops is a few evenings with a friend, and the multiplayer core design is as readable today as anything built since. It is rough around the administrative edges in 2026, but the game itself remains one of the clearest examples of a studio operating at full confidence.
