You get the original Borderlands (rough around the edges but charming), the peak of the series in Borderlands 2 (hilarious writing, genuinely memorable villains), and The Pre-Sequel (weird and divisive, but bold). The core loop across all three, shoot, loot, rinse, repeat, hasn't aged poorly; if anything, the gunplay feels snappier than similar loot games that came later. Each game scales in length from 20 to 30+ hours depending on how deep you go into side quests and endgame farming.
