Age of Wonders 4: Rise from Ruin
For tome-tree veterans who want harsher maps and deeper late game. Newcomers should start with the base game instead, because this one assumes you already know the systems.
GamerScout Verdict
Buy it if you already speak fluent tome tree and want terrain that punishes lazy scouting; skip it if you're new.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About Age of Wonders 4: Rise from Ruin
This one is for players who already have a favorite spell tome opening and want the map itself to fight back. If you have never built a custom faction in this series, walk away and learn the fundamentals elsewhere first, because the tutorial here does not hold your hand through the tome tree it expects you to already understand. The headline change is terrain hazards, and they do real work: early scouting stops being a formality and becomes a genuine decision about where your second city goes. Late game keeps the depth the series is known for, with faction customization and Steam Workshop support meaning your twentieth campaign can look nothing like your first. The 63 percent Mixed rating is earned, not unfair. The AI still fumbles hazard-heavy maps in ways a competent human never would, and turn-based combat encounters get repetitive once your stack composition solidifies around turn 60. Asynchronous multiplayer and cross-platform co-op are genuinely good additions if you have a group. Solo, expect a strong 20 hours and a soft finish.
