I approached Primal Fury expecting the kind of mechanical depth Paradox usually delivers. Instead, what you get is the Primal culture: a thematic layer built around animal spirit channeling and beast-rider units like mammoth and crocodile cavalry. If you're already invested in AoW4's core systems, the unit roster additions and nature-flavored spell trees offer legitimate build variety. The Naga lords faction plays differently enough from the base game's offerings to justify a run-through. Here's the catch: this is DLC-as-theme-pack, not a fundamental systems overhaul. The expansion doesn't deepen the underlying 4X mechanics or meaningfully reshape late-game decision trees. You're paying for cosmetic depth plus a handful of new unit types. That's fine if you've sunk 100+ hours into the base game and want fresh flavor. For newcomers or anyone holding out for a "must-play" reason, skip it until the inevitable bundle discount.
