GamerScout Verdict
A rough-around-the-edges 90s platformer throwback worth a shot if you've exhausted better options, but skip if you value tight controls.

About 40 Winks
40 Winks is a straightforward action-platformer that landed obscurely in 2018 courtesy of Piko Interactive's retro revival label. You swap between brother and sister, each with slightly different abilities, navigating colorful levels to hunt down 40 scattered Winks before Nitekap corrupts them into hood-winks. The premise is pure 90s platformer logic: collect MacGuffins, fight boss, save the day. What works: level design is inventive enough to stay engaging, and the dual-character switching mechanic adds basic puzzle-solving. What doesn't: the game feels like it's missing the polish of its era's A-titles. Controls are serviceable but lack the snappiness that made classic platformers feel right. It's a competent time-killer for platformer completionists willing to tolerate rough edges, but don't expect a hidden gem. Best played as a curiosity, not a rediscovery.
