GamerScout Verdict
For retro-curious puzzle-solvers willing to learn systems via trial and error, not for action-genre mainstream players.

About Z.A.R.
Z.A.R. puts you in control of a mining robot on automated worlds harvesting Iberium in 2097. It's equal parts top-down shooter and resource collection sim, and that split personality is exactly what makes it interesting. The mining drill mechanic gives combat weight, you're not just blasting aliens, you're managing your approach to gather materials while staying alive. Levels are compact and puzzle-like if you're willing to spend time experimenting. The catch: this is rough-around-the-edges indie work from 2015. Visuals are utilitarian, the learning curve is steep because tutorials are sparse, and there's no hand-holding about what strategies actually work. If you bounce off games that don't explain themselves, Z.A.R. will frustrate you instantly. But if you're the type who enjoys figuring out how systems tick, the mining-combat loop has enough quirky depth to hold attention for a few focused hours.
