If you have not bought the base game yet, start there first. From a deck-construction standpoint, the two archetypes here sit at interesting ends of the design spectrum. Toons are a nostalgia-loaded archetype built around Pegasus and his cartoon monster gimmick, relying on Toon World being on the field and punching directly at your opponent's life points when conditions are met. Kaijus play a completely different game: they are tribute-removal tools, letting you special summon them to your opponent's side of the field to clear threats, then swarm your own board. Neither deck is a competitive powerhouse in the current real-world meta, but inside the game's structured duel environment they are more than functional and they cover two very different playstyles for new players to experiment with. The additional duels added to GX Campaign and Challenge Mode are the real draw for players who have already exhausted the base content. Challenge Mode in Legacy of the Duelist works as a reversed-deck puzzle format where you take control of iconic characters' decks and try to win from a set position. More of those scenarios means more targeted practice against specific board states, which for anyone trying to actually learn the card game's timing rules and chain resolution is genuinely useful. The GX story arc is one of the longer campaign threads in the base game, and extra duels threaded into it extend that runtime without breaking the pacing. The honest criticism is that this is a very small content drop. Two decks and a handful of extra duels is a modest ask even by DLC standards. There is no new tutorial content, no expanded deckbuilder functionality, and no new mechanics introduced outside what the base game already teaches. For a player who wants to understand the Kaiju engine or run Toon chaos in a low-stakes environment before building the deck in real life or in a more competitive digital client, it serves that narrow purpose well. For anyone else, it is hard to call this essential. Legacy of the Duelist itself has a reasonable mod-adjacent ecosystem on PC through community deck builds shared online, though this DLC is an Xbox platform release, which closes that door. Online PvP and local multiplayer are supported through the base game's framework, so the decks you unlock here are available to take into those modes. Whether the Toons or Kaiju builds hold up against a human opponent with a tuned meta deck is a different question - expect them to be fun rather than feared. If you are a GX-era fan who wants more duels set in that corner of the Yu-Gi-Oh timeline and specifically wants to mess around with Toon or Kaiju strategies in a structured single-player context, this DLC delivers exactly what it advertises.
