About X Rebirth: Home of Light (DLC)
Home of Light is the second DLC expansion for X Rebirth, Egosoft's ambitious but famously troubled space sim. Released alongside the 4.0 update, it extends the playable universe with three new star systems accessible through Jump Gates, widening the sandbox for trading empires, combat runs, station construction, and the kind of spreadsheet-worthy logistics planning that space sim fans actually want to spend a Saturday on. If you are already invested in X Rebirth and have exhausted the base regions, this is the natural next stop. The four pillars that Egosoft has always marketed for the X series - TRADE, FIGHT, BUILD, THINK - get genuine breathing room here. More systems mean more trade routes to optimize, more factions to juggle, and more locations to plant your station infrastructure. For the build-order crowd, that additional real estate matters. You are not just given filler space either; new regions come with their own economic pressure and challenges that push you to expand your fleet and supply chains in ways the base game's late game sometimes failed to demand. The 4.0 update bundled with Home of Light deserves separate credit. Egosoft has a long track record of patching their games into significantly better shape over time, and 4.0 was one of those turning points for X Rebirth. Quality-of-life improvements, AI behavior fixes, and interface adjustments accumulated over years of updates land here, meaning the version of X Rebirth you play with this DLC installed is materially different from launch-day X Rebirth. If you bounced off the game in its early state, that context is relevant before writing it off entirely. The honest caveat is that X Rebirth still carries structural baggage. Unlike X3 before it, the cockpit-locked perspective and single-ship piloting model divide the fanbase, and no amount of new systems fully resolves that design disagreement. The AI, while improved, still has rough edges that experienced space sim players will notice immediately. Steam Workshop support is present, and the mod community has done meaningful work, but the ecosystem never reached the depth of X3 mods. If you are coming to X Rebirth for the first time via this DLC bundle, treat the learning curve as a real investment, not a weekend warm-up. The tutorial structure is functional but not generous. For someone already clocked into X Rebirth who wants more map to fill with trade stations and patrol wings, Home of Light delivers that with enough new systemic friction to feel worthwhile rather than decorative. For a lapsed player considering a return, the 4.0 patch improvements make the timing reasonable. For a complete newcomer, start with the base game and a community beginner guide before spending anything on expansions. Diego, Scout Team
