You manage hunger, health, and fatigue while hunting prey, avoiding threats, and eventually breeding to grow your pack. The mechanics are straightforward, no deep stat trees or crafting menus, which means you'll spend 20 minutes learning the controls and the rest actually playing instead of reading tooltips. The catch: depth here comes from environmental awareness and pack dynamics, not build variety. Solo play is functional but shallow. Multiplayer hints at more interesting emergent play, though finding active players on a sub-5k game is the real survival challenge.
