A fan-service-heavy action brawler from the SENRAN KAGURA team where virus-infected fighters duke it out in fast, combo-driven combat. Style over substance, unapologetically.

VALKYRIE DRIVE Complete Edition is a 3D arena brawler from Meteorise and HONEY PARADE GAMES, the same studio behind the SENRAN KAGURA series, so you already have a rough idea of what you're signing up for. The premise is straightforward: a group of girls infected with the mysterious VR-Virus must fight to keep it under control, and that struggle plays out through fast, character-action-style combat across a roster of distinct fighters. It is unambiguously an adult-oriented, fan-service-first release, and if that framing puts you off, the rest of this review won't change your mind. On pure mechanics, the game holds up reasonably well within its genre. Each character plays differently enough to reward learning their moveset, and combo strings have satisfying flow once you stop button-mashing and actually think about timing and spacing. The drive system, where characters power up mid-fight, adds a layer of resource management that keeps matches from becoming completely mindless. It is not a deep fighting game by any stretch, but for an arena brawler it does more than coast on aesthetics alone. The campaign gives you a reason to run through fights in sequence, and the included modes span single-player story content, local and online multiplayer, and co-op, which is a solid package for the genre. Where the game stumbles is in production depth. Stages are functional but limited in variety, and the AI in solo content can feel either aggressively spongy or passively dumb depending on the difficulty setting. The story, delivered through visual novel-style cutscenes, leans hard into its fan-service angle and offers little for players who are not already invested in that style of presentation. If you came for a tightly written narrative, you are in the wrong aisle. The Complete Edition bundles in DLC content alongside the base game, which gives returning players or newcomers better value than a bare release would. Online multiplayer is available, though player population is a real question mark given the game's age and niche appeal, so treat online modes as a bonus rather than a selling point. This one is clearly built for a specific audience: players who enjoyed SENRAN KAGURA's action loop, fans of the original Vita release looking to revisit on PC, or anyone who wants an accessible brawler and is comfortable with the presentation style. Go in with calibrated expectations and you will find a game that does its chosen thing competently. Go in expecting a genre benchmark and you will be disappointed. Alex, Scout Team
