Trainz Simulator: Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set (DLC) Key
A focused rolling-stock DLC for Trainz Simulator 12 that drops two beautifully detailed 2-8-4 Berkshire steam locomotives and matching freight consists into your layout. Pure sim-nerd fuel, no casual detours.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth it only if you already own Trainz Simulator 12 on Steam and want a historically grounded Berkshire locomotive to run on your layout.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

About Trainz Simulator: Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set (DLC) Key
If you have a soft spot for the golden age of American steam freight, this add-on pack does exactly one thing and does it with care: it hands you two legendary 2-8-4 Berkshire locomotives and the period-correct freight equipment to run behind them. The headliner is the New York, Chicago and St. Louis "Nickel Plate Road" Class S-2, modeled in both early and late condition, alongside the Pere Marquette Class N-1 in its preserved state. Both locos share the same basic Berkshire lineage, a wheel arrangement that earned a reputation for "superpower" technology and became synonymous with the NKP's high-speed freight identity. Pulling duty behind them is an NKP 40-foot boxcar and the distinctive NKP 400 Series Bay Window Caboose, and N3V has sweated the small stuff: custom 3D interiors for both loco and caboose, an animated bell with working lever in the cab, configurable classification lights and flags, automatic prototypical vehicle numbering, and a caboose that properly lights up at night and boards crew at the depot. From a sim standpoint, this is firmly enthusiast territory. The Train Motion settings are tuned to produce realistic Berkshire behaviour, which means you will feel the difference between crawling a heavy consist up grade and letting the S-2 stretch its legs on flat Midwestern main line. There is a pre-built driving session accessible from the Kickstarter County session menu so you can jump straight in without having to place stock manually in Surveyor, though the Surveyor sandbox is of course still there for layout builders who want to drop these engines into custom routes. The honest caveats: the Steam user pool is small (roughly a dozen reviews, sitting around 85 percent positive), so long-term community support for bug fixes is thin. More critically, this is a Steam-only DLC and requires Trainz Simulator 12 purchased through Steam specifically. Buyers who own the base game on disc or from a non-Steam storefront will not be able to activate it, which has caught a few people out. There is no multiplayer hook here, no co-op session, no leaderboard for you and three mates on a Saturday night. This is a solo, slow-burn, headphone-on experience. As a sports-and-racing person I will be upfront: I am not your usual train sim customer. But I respect the craft in a well-modeled sim vehicle, and the Berkshire pack clearly targets the collector and the historically curious rather than the casual driver. If you are already invested in the Trainz ecosystem and the NKP Berkshire is a gap in your roster, this fills it cleanly. If you are new to Trainz, sort out the base game and a route first before worrying about period rolling stock.
