theHunter: Call of the Wild – ATV SABER 4X4 (DLC)
Add-on / DLC for theHunter: Call of the Wild™ — view full gameA utilitarian ATV DLC for theHunter: Call of the Wild that trades boot-leather for horsepower, useful, but firmly optional.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth it only if long traversal is killing your sessions - otherwise a shallow add-on with no progression depth.

About theHunter: Call of the Wild – ATV SABER 4X4 (DLC)
theHunter: Call of the Wild is an open-world hunting simulation with a strong emphasis on patience, positioning, and reading animal behavior across sprawling reserves. The ATV SABER 4X4 DLC drops a four-wheel drive vehicle into that sandbox, letting you cover ground faster between hunting spots rather than trekking on foot across terrain that was clearly designed to punish impatience. For players managing large reserves and juggling multiple trophy targets per session, that time saving is genuinely meaningful. From a practical standpoint, the SABER handles the terrain about as well as you would expect from a hunting-focused sim rather than a dedicated off-road racer. It gets you from the lodge to a distant outpost without the ten-minute walk, which matters more on the larger reserves where the distances between active animal zones can feel punishing. The vehicle does generate noise, so arriving at a hunting spot still requires parking at a distance and approaching on foot if you want clean shot opportunities. That interplay between speed and stealth is the only real decision layer the DLC adds, and it is a thin one. Where this falls short as a strategy investment is depth. There is no meaningful progression tied to the vehicle, no upgrade path, no customization beyond cosmetics, and no mission structure built around it. For a game that otherwise rewards careful scouting, wind direction awareness, and call timing, the ATV is almost an anti-thesis. It skips the slow build rather than enhancing it. Players who already find long traversal frustrating will get clear value here. Players who treat the walk as part of the hunting ritual will likely buy this once, try it for an afternoon, and return to their boots. The base game's Very Positive rating across a very large review sample reflects a genuinely well-supported product, and Expansive Worlds has historically been responsive to the community on updates. This DLC, however, predates most of the game's bigger content additions and feels like an early quality-of-life convenience rather than a designed gameplay expansion. It does what it says on the label, nothing more. If you already own several reserves and find yourself losing sessions to travel time rather than actual hunting decisions, the SABER pays for itself in saved frustration. Otherwise, it sits firmly in the "nice to have" column.
