The Waste Land
A scrappy, mournful metroidvania built on T.S. Eliot's poem, with real atmosphere and real jank. Bring patience or skip it entirely.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth it for literary-curio hunters with patience for clumsy combat; anyone wanting tight action should skip.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About The Waste Land
This one is for players who forgive rough controls when a game has something to say, and for nobody who wants a clean, polished side-scroller. Fledermaus built a small melancholic metroidvania out of Eliot's poem, and the mood carries it: desolate side-scrolling corridors, a heavy hush over everything, ability gates that slowly open the map back up to you. Exploration is the real pleasure here. Finding a new movement power and remembering the ledge it unlocks two zones back is the loop, and it lands often enough to justify the walk. What it does not do is play well. Combat is stiff, hit feedback is vague, and the platforming asks for precision the controller support does not always give back. The Mixed review score is earned, not unfair. But it is short, it does not overstay, and it ends where it should. If you collect strange, unloved literary experiments and treat the friction as part of the texture, there is something quietly worth sitting with in here.
