About The Tartarus Key
I spent a few hours in Vertical Reach's locked-mansion premise, and the core loop works: you're trapped with other prisoners, solving interconnected puzzles and uncovering why you're here. The environmental puzzle design is genuinely clever, cameras feed into security systems, mechanisms cascade logically. The choice-driven survival angle promises tension, and some branching moments land. What doesn't: the writing feels thin, voice acting wavering between natural and stilted, and pacing drags between puzzle clusters. At 65 on Metacritic, it's not broken, just underbaked. If you're starved for first-person puzzle adventures and can tolerate middling production values, there's a functional mystery here. But it doesn't transcend its budget constraints enough to be essential.
