About The Book of Desires
I picked up The Book of Desires expecting the usual hidden-object padding, and that's exactly what I got, which is fine. Ashley wakes from a nightmare only to find reality isn't much better, and you're tasked with clicking around dreamlike environments hunting for objects and solving light puzzles to progress the story. The art has a creepy-fairytale vibe that works better than you'd expect from a 2015 budget title, and the premise taps into that unsettling dream-logic that makes the whole thing feel slightly off in a good way. It's not trying to be innovative or groundbreaking. If you want a low-stakes, chill adventure game you can finish in a few hours without much brain strain, this delivers. The puzzles won't challenge anyone, and the story is threadbare, but for the price point this lands where it aims. Not a hidden gem, just honest pulp.
