GamerScout Verdict
Rough but rewarding tactical shooter for retro strategy fans willing to forgive clunky 90s controls.

About Syndicate Wars
I went in expecting a dated strategy game and found something genuinely unforgiving. Syndicate Wars puts you in command of agents in a grimy future city where you manage squad formations, weapon loadouts, and mission objectives in real-time with pause. The isometric view works well for spatial awareness, and the game doesn't hold your hand - missions can spiral fast if you misread enemy positions or waste ammunition. It's clunky by modern standards, but the core loop of planning approach routes and adjusting on the fly still clicks. The catch: this is a 1996 game that shows its age in UI clarity and pathfinding quirks. Expect trial-and-error mission design where you'll restart to learn enemy patrol patterns. If you're hunting retro tactical challenge without modern quality-of-life polish, the foundation here is solid. Anyone else will find it a frustrating museum piece.
