Subzero
A live-action FMV thriller where every choice feeds a dice-modifier system that can quietly poison your survival odds ten scenes later. High approval from nearly 3,000 Steam players backs it up.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth it for FMV and interactive fiction fans who want mechanical weight behind their choices, not just cosmetic branching.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

About Subzero
I came into Subzero expecting a lightweight choose-your-own-adventure skin over a zombie apocalypse premise, and left genuinely surprised by how much systemic pressure Joy Media Limited packed into what is, on the surface, a cinematic FMV experience. This is not a passive movie. Every dialogue pick and branching decision feeds into two parallel trackers: affinity with your three companions and a dice-modifier pool that applies bonuses or penalties to the rolls that gate life-or-death moments. Get complacent with your choices early and you will arrive at a critical dice check carrying a quiet deficit you barely remember earning. The setup drops you into Marina Bay, a tropical city that has inexplicably plunged into a deep freeze. Zombie outbreaks, resource scarcity, and the very human threat of desperate neighbors converge on a protagonist who started the apocalypse as the most unremarkable warehouse clerk in the city. The three survivors who attach themselves to you are distinct in both personality and strategic value. One is your friend's rebellious younger sister, tough under pressure, someone you can lean on when the horde closes in. Another is an inscrutable woman with ties to Dorun, a biotech conglomerate that may be more central to the freeze than anyone admits. The third rounds out a cast built for replayability rather than a single clean run. Relationship-building here is not purely a romance sidebar. It directly unlocks special abilities via the in-game Walkman interface, where Crystals accumulated through smart choices let you slot passive skills for the protagonist or unlock each heroine's unique ability. Botch your Crystal management and you can paint yourself into a corner. The production values are higher than most FMV games bother with. Cinematics run at 1080p and 50 FPS with on-set recorded audio, and the first-person perspective that covers roughly 80 percent of the runtime makes the experience feel closer to an immersive sim than a visual novel. The morality system deserves credit for not being binary. Blizzards and zombie groans are framed as ambient pressure on your decision-making, and the game regularly asks whether the stranger at the door is more dangerous than the undead outside. Those questions rarely have a clean answer, which is the point. On the criticism side, non-Chinese players should know the game launched with localization gaps. Patch notes from the Steam community confirm that missing translations caused a phone-interface freeze on Day 4 and an unlocalized letter on Day 8. Both appear fixed in post-launch updates, but it is fair warning that the Chinese-language version was the primary build at launch. The FMV format also means there is no systemic depth to the sim layer beyond the affinity and dice mechanics. If you are expecting base-building or resource spreadsheets, this is not that game. For fans of interactive fiction with mechanical teeth, Subzero punches well above the genre average. The dice-modifier system creates a genuine cause-and-effect loop across the full runtime that most FMV titles completely ignore. With multiple endings and a 93 percent positive rating across nearly three thousand reviews, the community reception is hard to argue with.
