Subsiege

I spent some time with Subsiege expecting either a hidden gem or a dead server. It's somewhere in between. You command a squad of hero units in underwater skirmishes against AI creatures and human opponents, with oxygen depletion forcing constant repositioning. The core tension is real: you're always juggling unit cooldowns, map control, and that rising panic of suffocation. The 12-player battles can feel chaotic, but that chaos is the point. The rough edges are obvious. The tutorial is thin, the UI doesn't always clarify what's happening, and the playerbase is small enough that matchmaking can be slow. But if you like asymmetrical pressure systems (like Slay the Spire's deck burn or Risk of Rain's difficulty spiral), the oxygen mechanic hooks you in ways most competitive tactics games don't bother with. Not for everyone, but worth a look if you're tired of polished mediocrity.
