About Stronghold Crusader 2: Special Edition
The sieges are the reason to be here. Stronghold Crusader 2 understands that the fun of a castle game is the moment your walls stop being decoration: catapults chewing through stone, oil pots lighting up a breach, siege towers crawling forward while archers on your gatehouse thin them out. Setting up interlocking kill zones with moats, killing pits and layered walls, then watching the AI throw itself at your design, is genuinely satisfying in a way few RTS games bother with anymore. The desert setting matters too, since water and food logistics squeeze you in ways a green-map builder never does. The rest is rougher. Unit pathing gets confused around your own architecture, the economy loop of farms, quarries and ale is thin once you have solved it a few times, and the AI opponents lean on scripted personalities more than smart play. Skirmish and multiplayer carry the long tail; the campaign missions are short and uneven. If you played the 2001 original, expect familiarity rather than reinvention, with prettier stone and more frustration at the controls.
