Skull Island: Rise of Kong Colossal Pack

I went in expecting tie-in shovelware. Instead, I found a single-developer project that treats its Kong-adjacent premise with genuine craft. You play a vengeful hunter tracking Gaw across a hostile island, armed with upgradeable gear and a pixel-art style that recalls old Metroidvania sensibilities without copying them wholesale. Combat is methodical, not flashy, dodge, slash, manage stamina. It's deliberately paced, which means the first hour can feel slow if you're hunting action spectacle. The Colossal Pack layers extras onto the base game: film grain filters (including a noir mode that actually reframes how you read the atmosphere), Kong costume variants, and a boss-rush mode that strips away exploration and dares you to survive back-to-back fights. None of this feels cynical. The behind-the-scenes material reveals a developer who cared about their craft even in a licensed side-project. This isn't a must-play, but it's a thoughtful little island crawl for players who value atmosphere and handmade detail over AAA polish.
