Running Hell turns out to be an optimization problem, and Sintopia makes that premise sing across three modes with enough systemic depth to punish bad build orders and reward obsessive planners.

I came in expecting a cheeky reskin of Two Point Hospital with horns. What I got was a genuine dual-loop management sim that keeps pulling the rug out the moment you think you have a handle on it. The core setup splits your attention across two layers: the Overworld, where a chickpea civilization called the Humus lives out their mundane, sinful lives, and Hell itself, where you process the souls they send you. Neglect either side and the whole operation collapses. Ignore the Overworld and your soul pipeline dries up. Ignore Hell and backed-up sinners cause cascading chaos that no amount of clicking will fix in time. That asymmetrical pressure is where Sintopia earns its depth credentials. The Hell management layer is the meatier of the two and plays closest to the Bullfrog lineage reviewers keep invoking. You lay roads, construct specialized sin-processing facilities matched to the specific sins your Humus have been accumulating, manage a workforce of Imployees who will absolutely go on strike if you overextend your payroll, and optimize soul throughput for Purgadollars. The bottleneck logic is real: overbuild intake and neglect mid-chain processing, and your operation seizes up fast. The automation systems let you template repeatable flows, but the game leans management over factory-builder, so expect more hands-on queue management than belt-laying. Up top, your god-game toolkit lets you zap Humus with divine spells, influence their rulers, and engineer sin behavior to shape what kind of souls drop into your facility below. It is a supply chain you can actively manipulate, and the timing decisions around it, harvest a soul now or corrupt it further for higher processing yield, are genuinely interesting. The campaign spans around 30-35 hours and is fully voiced, with Lili the succubus serving as your sardonic work-wife and The Chairman providing passive-aggressive performance reviews from on high. The writing earns its laughs without overstaying them. Beyond the campaign, Challenge Mode throws random maps and escalating threats at you for replayability, and Sandbox hands you a fully unlocked playground for layout experimentation. For players like me who want structured decision trees, the campaign and challenge modes are where the real game lives. The weaknesses are real and worth flagging before you commit. The tutorial walks you through mechanics but does not adequately explain the meta-progression layer that governs difficulty scaling. Wrong upgrade choices early can quietly poison a run several missions later, and the feedback loop that explains why is not obvious. A handful of post-launch patches have addressed soul dispatcher bugs and balance issues, but some automation logic at later campaign stages still misbehaves under load. The Overworld layer also gives you less direct control than you might want, which frustrates players expecting symmetrical depth on both sides of the divide. These are real friction points, not minor niggles. For strategy players with tolerance for steep learning curves and a fondness for the Dungeon Keeper or Theme Hospital school of design, Sintopia is the most interesting management hybrid to land in years. The Chairman Edition bundles in a 31-track soundtrack and a 200-page digital artbook, both worthwhile additions if you end up logging the hours this game tends to extract. Come in expecting a casual city-builder and you will hit a wall by mission four. Come in ready to trace the full chain from Humus sin rates down to your Hell facility layout, and this one will keep you busy. Diego, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Best for management sim fans who want Dungeon Keeper depth wrapped in workplace satire, if the steep tutorial curve doesn't put them off first.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
