The Season Pass layers additional units and mission content on top of the base game, which already tasks players with smashing through alternate-history Gundam scenarios solo or alongside up to two friends in online co-op. If you are coming in from the RPG side of things, manage expectations: the character progression here is about suit loadouts and stat ceilings, not branching dialogue trees or morally complicated decisions. The worldbuilding is pure Gundam fan service, and it knows exactly what it is. The core loop is straightforward. You pick a mobile suit, equip it with abilities and upgrades earned through mission rewards, then fight through waves of enemy units across a series of stages pulled from various Gundam timelines. The combat system has enough depth to keep things interesting for the first twenty hours or so - different suit types handle distinctly, and there is genuine satisfaction in learning a high-mobility unit versus a heavier close-range brawler. Co-op smooths over a lot of rough edges, since the game clearly wants you playing with others. Solo runs start to feel the grind more acutely, especially in later missions where difficulty spikes lean on repetition rather than smarter design. The Season Pass content expands the mobile suit roster and drops in additional missions, which is exactly what a Gundam collector wants and exactly what a casual observer does not need. If you are not already tracking which suits are missing from your hangar, the Season Pass will not convert you. The base game's Mixed review score on Steam reflects a real tension: Gundam devotees get a competent, fun fan-service package, while players hoping for deeper RPG systems or stronger writing will find the whole thing shallow. The mission variety is limited, filler stages exist (yes, I noticed), and the narrative connective tissue between Gundam timelines is thin enough to frustrate anyone who wants actual story payoff. At 71 on Metacritic with mixed player sentiment, this is not a hidden gem situation. It is a serviceable licensed action RPG that does right by its source material without pushing past it. The Season Pass makes sense as a purchase only if the base game already has its hooks in you - specifically if the mobile suit variety is the axis your enjoyment rotates on. For everyone else, try the base game first and see whether the loop clicks before committing to more content.
