About Replica
I went in expecting a straightforward hacking sim, but Replica is really a narrative puzzle wrapped in a smartphone UI. You're given access to someone's phone and tasked with finding specific files and information by reading through their messages, social media, and personal documents. The story unfolds entirely through what you discover, and it gets genuinely unsettling fast. The puzzle design is solid - nothing requiring external tools, just logic and pattern-matching across what the character has left behind. It's short (2-3 hours) and intentionally claustrophobic, which works in its favor. The main weakness is that once you know the twist, there's no reason to revisit it. It's also text-heavy, so if you're not into reading digital conversations and piecing together context clues, you'll bounce off quickly. But if you like narrative games that trust you to figure things out without hand-holding, and you appreciate the creepy intimacy of invading someone's privacy, Replica scratches that itch.
