My Saturday night co-op test is pretty simple: can four people who have never touched a game pick up controllers and be laughing within five minutes? REKT! High Octane Stunts passes that test with almost suspicious ease. Drop into a neon-soaked arena, hit a ramp, flick the right stick to throw in a barrel roll or a back-flip, land on four wheels, and watch the combo multiplier climb. Miss the landing and the arena flushes back to its default red, the announcer shouts the game's name at you, and every point in that chain is gone. It is the oldest arcade loop in the book, and it works. The core move-set covers aerial flips, barrel rolls, spins, grinds on designated rails, drifts, and boost-assisted wall-rides. Chaining those moves is where the skill ceiling lives - you have a small grace window after landing to hit something else and keep the multiplier alive, so route planning actually matters. The solo High Score mode runs against a clock, with collectible time extensions scattered around the arena, which adds a light scavenger dimension on top of the trick chasing. Practice mode removes the timer entirely, which is exactly the right call for newcomers and younger players. Each run also throws three randomised challenges at you - land a certain number of flips, collect the R-E-K-T letters dotted around the map, hit a score threshold - and completing those rewards in-game currency to unlock new arenas and spin a customisation wheel for car parts. The car roster stretches past fifty vehicles, including some genuinely ridiculous unlockables - think nostalgia-bait van spoofs and vehicles no reasonable person would take into a stunt arena. Mechanically the cars play identically, which is a legitimate criticism: there is no real reason to chase the garage beyond the dopamine of seeing a new model. Map count is also thin. There are a handful of arenas, each with loops, half-pipes, grindable rails, and stacked boxes to plough through, but reviewers and Steam players alike flag that the environments start to blur together after a couple of hours solo. The dynamic colour-shift - the arena cycling through purples, blues, and greens as your combo grows, then snapping back to red when you wipe out - is a smart visual trick that masks the repetition for a while, but it only goes so far. Where REKT! genuinely earns its Very Positive Steam rating is the local multiplayer suite. Up to four players share split-screen across four distinct modes: Score (straight stunt battle), Checkpoint (five-point race), Capture the Crown (hold the crown for 90 seconds), and Virus (last car to be crashed into wins, basically zombie tag with vehicles). Virus in particular is chaotic in the best possible way with four people on a couch. There is no online multiplayer, which is the single biggest missed opportunity in the package - Steam Remote Play Together covers some of that gap on PC, but it is a workaround, not a solution. Controls read cleanly on a standard gamepad; no wheel or HOTAS setup needed or recommended here. Solo players will likely feel the content ceiling within a few hours. The game knows exactly what it is - a short-session arcade loop with a global leaderboard to chase - and it executes that identity cleanly. For a couch session with mixed-skill friends or kids in the room, the accessibility and immediate fun factor are genuinely hard to beat at this price tier.
