For spreadsheet strategists willing to overlook dated presentation and inconsistent AI in exchange for granular resource control.

About Reign: Conflict of Nations
I spent enough time with Reign to understand what Lesta Studio was trying: a spreadsheet-heavy RTS with realistic resource allocation and a sprawling tech tree. The labor system is genuinely interesting, assigning population to production chains feels granular and purposeful, and the scenario variety keeps you from repeating the same map twice. Problem is, the 14-year-old UI and AI pathfinding feel clunky even by 2010 standards. Unit balance is uneven, and the learning curve is steep without much hand-holding. If you want old-school complexity over polish, this scratches that itch. The mod ecosystem is dead, though, and Metacritic's 60 reflects a game that aimed higher than execution could reach. Play it if you've exhausted Civilization and StarCraft campaigns and want something weirder, not because it's hidden gold, but because you appreciate ambition over accessibility.
