Rebooted Fate
A live-action FMV visual novel that weaponises choice anxiety against you: every dialogue pick quietly rewires relationships you won't fully understand until several scenes later.

About Rebooted Fate
My spreadsheet instincts kicked in about ten minutes after starting Rebooted Fate, and not in the way I expected. There are no tech trees, no resource ratios, no build orders to memorise. What there is instead is a layered decision graph that behaves suspiciously like one. You play as Qi Nian, a newly unemployed graduate who stumbles into a supernatural second-chance system called Fortune Reversal. From that moment, choice panels and relationship meters materialise inside his daily life, turning mundane conversations into branching nodes with downstream consequences you often cannot trace in real time. The core loop is almost entirely reading and choosing. Rebooted Fate is a first-person FMV visual novel, meaning real actors and real locations fill the screen while you pick dialogue lines and actions. The production makes a genuine attempt at emotional grounding: characters open up at different rates, some staying opaque for hours before revealing anything meaningful, and the delayed payoff of certain decisions creates a legitimate sense of weight. That said, the strategy tag on the Steam page is doing heavy lifting. If you came expecting turn-based systems or city management, reset those expectations now. The strategic thinking here is social and narrative, not mechanical. You are optimising relationship trajectories and career pivot points, not unit compositions. Where Rebooted Fate genuinely earns attention is in the multiple-endings architecture. The game is designed for replay, and the branching is substantial enough that a second run through core decision points reads noticeably differently. Relationship depth with the four main characters, including Lin Meina and Feng Yalin, shifts based on behaviour and conversational tone rather than simple approval meters, which is a smarter design than the genre usually manages. It rewards players who pay attention to subtext rather than just picking the most obviously "correct" option. The honest caveats are worth addressing. The active player count is low, meaning no community walkthrough ecosystem has fully matured yet, which cuts both ways: you get a genuinely unguided first run, but hunting for branching paths solo takes patience. The content warnings for mature material are accurate and should be read before purchasing. Localisation quality in English is functional but occasionally rough, and players without some tolerance for translated-from-Chinese dialogue rhythms may find immersion interrupted. There are also no meaningful mod tools and no traditional tutorial, which suits the visual-novel crowd but may frustrate players expecting a more gamified onboarding. For the strategy-adjacent player who wants something that scratches the decision-tree itch without demanding fifty hours of mechanical mastery, Rebooted Fate occupies an interesting gap. The Fortune Reversal system is essentially a soft save-scum mechanic elevated into a story premise, and watching its logic unfold across playthroughs is the real reason to be here. Approach it as an interactive drama with replay value baked into its structure, not as an action RPG wearing a genre label costume. Diego, Scout Team
