Rails Across America
A real-time railroad sim that lets you build continent-spanning empires from 1830 onwards, but don't expect it to match the depth of Transport Tycoon or the polish of modern grand strategy.
GamerScout Verdict
For railroad enthusiasts who value economic depth over tutorial handholding; everyone else should sample Transport Tycoon first.

About Rails Across America
I've spent enough time with railroad sims to know what works. Rails Across America gives you the core loop: lay track, buy trains, manage routes, and watch profit margins climb. The 1830-to-future timeline is interesting conceptually, and supporting hundreds of simultaneous trains across the continent is no small technical feat. Multiplayer and PvP modes add replayability for players who want to undercut competitors rather than optimize solo. The Metacritic 81 suggests solid execution, but this is a niche title with a small player base for good reason. The UI doesn't hold your hand the way Paradox titles do, and the real-time component means you'll miss the pausable-strategy convenience of traditional grand-strategy games. If you're comfortable with rougher edges and want a dedicated railroad economic sim without the bloat of management suites, this scratches that itch. Otherwise, Transport Tycoon Deluxe (modded) remains the gold standard.
