About Piece of..Horror
My first instinct when I found Piece of..Horror was the same one I get with any deeply obscure one-person release hiding in the corner of Steam: slow down and look closer. Azzunyan built this entirely alone, dropped it in June 2023, and it has almost no footprint online. That silence is itself a kind of signal worth reading carefully before you click add to cart. The setup has genuine promise. You play as a hypermarket security guard who wakes up under circumstances that immediately feel wrong. The store is familiar, mundane, the kind of place that hums with cold light and ambient music at two in the morning. That friction between a completely ordinary commercial space and something deeply off is a solid horror premise. Retail environments carry their own low-grade unease even without supernatural interference, and at least conceptually, Azzunyan is working with interesting material. The execution, though, is where things get complicated. The game leans hard into realistic graphics as its calling card, and while the hypermarket setting gives that approach a fighting chance, the solo-dev ceiling is visible throughout. Environments read as functional rather than atmospheric. The first-person perspective keeps you close to the action but the pacing and scares lack the layered sound design and environmental storytelling that carry games like this when mechanics alone aren't enough. The core loop, waking up disoriented and trying to understand whether to investigate or escape, never quite resolves into something that feels authored. It sits somewhere between a playable proof-of-concept and a finished game, and the community response, hovering around 40 to 42 percent positive across a small number of reviews, reflects that ambivalence. Who should still look at this? Honestly, players who specifically enjoy watching solo developers work through their first published horror project. There's something in Piece of..Horror that suggests Azzunyan has a feel for unsettling spaces even if the craft isn't fully there yet. If the hypermarket-at-night dread premise sounds irresistible to you and you can tolerate rough edges, the short runtime means the ask is modest. Everyone else would do better to wait and see if a post-launch patch changes the community temperature before committing. Kai, Scout Team
