A co-op cooking DLC that swaps the kitchen for the campfire, but uneven level design keeps it from being essential.

Campfire Cook Off is a paid DLC expansion for Overcooked! 2, dropping the familiar restaurant chaos in favour of outdoor wilderness kitchens built around campfires, picnic tables, and the general unpredictability of cooking in the woods. If you already own the base game and have worn out its original stages with your usual co-op crew, this pack offers a fresh visual setting and a handful of new recipes to shout at each other about. That is the honest pitch, and it is a modest one. The campfire theme does bring some genuine charm. Ghost Town Games has a real eye for readable, cheerful environments, and the outdoor stages have a warmth to them that fits the series well. New ingredients and recipe combinations give veteran players something unfamiliar to process under pressure, and a few of the later levels introduce layout twists that feel inventive enough to cause the kind of productive panic Overcooked! is built on. The visual craft here is consistent with the base game, which is to say it is bright, clear, and endearing without overstaying its welcome aesthetically. The problems are harder to overlook when you step back. The mixed Steam reviews reflect a frustration that is easy to understand once you play through the pack: the difficulty curve is inconsistent. Some stages feel generously tuned, almost too gentle for players who cleared the main campaign on three stars, while others spike in ways that feel less like clever design and more like cramped geometry punishing communication. For a game mode that lives entirely on the quality of its level design, uneven stages hurt more than they would in almost any other genre. There are also only a handful of levels here, and for the asking price, the content feels thin even by DLC standards. This is also a DLC that is genuinely at its worst played solo. Overcooked! 2 as a whole is a co-op game wearing a single-player costume, and Campfire Cook Off does nothing to address that. If you have a regular couch co-op partner or a reliable online group, the pack has enough novelty to justify a session or two. If you are buying it to play alone, the experience flattens considerably and the limited level count becomes much more apparent. For completionists who want every piece of Overcooked! 2 content, or for groups who have genuinely exhausted the base game, Campfire Cook Off is a pleasant but unessential detour. It does not reinvent anything, and the mixed reception it has earned is a fair signal that even the fanbase is divided on whether the value is there. Approach it as a light supplement rather than a significant expansion and you will come away less disappointed. Kai, Scout Team
