About Neptunia Virtual Stars - Inuyama Tamaki Pack (DLC)
Neptunia Virtual Stars is a music-flavored hack-and-slash RPG set on Planet Emote, where virtual idols team up with the Neptunia goddesses to fight off a content-devouring threat. The Inuyama Tamaki Pack is a DLC add-on that drops a specific virtual idol, Inuyama Tamaki, into that world. If you already know who Tamaki is and you bought the base game precisely because of the real-world virtual idol crossover angle, this pack delivers the fan-service it promises. Let me be straightforward about what this DLC actually is: it is character content for an existing game that already sits at a mixed reception. The base game's combat is serviceable but shallow by action-RPG standards. You cycle through idol performance attacks, button-mash through waves of faceless enemies, and enjoy the visual candy of over-the-top concert aesthetics. Build variety is limited. The narrative rewards you care about if you have come from deeper CRPGs are not really on offer here. This is Idea Factory doing what Idea Factory does: lean hard into fandom affection and idol culture presentation. The writing in Neptunia games operates on a specific comedic register, full of fourth-wall breaks and genre self-awareness, and if that register clicks for you, it clicks hard. If it does not, no amount of Tamaki charm will fix it. The DLC presumably adds character-specific dialogue and interactions woven into that same tone. Whether those moments land depends almost entirely on whether you have a pre-existing connection to Tamaki as a virtual personality. From a pure RPG-mechanics standpoint, there is not much to analyze. Character packs in this series tend to adjust your party composition options and add flavor to combat animations more than they deepen any underlying system. If you are hoping for new story routes, meaningful choice branches, or writing that rewards a second playthrough, you are looking in the wrong place. This is supplemental content for a game that was already light on those fronts. The honest audience for this DLC is narrow: fans of Inuyama Tamaki who want to see her rendered in Compile Heart's art style, fighting alongside Neptune and friends. If that description fits you, the value proposition is personal and probably clear already. Everyone else should sort out whether the base game itself is worth their time before even glancing at character packs. Monika, Scout Team
