MOTHERED - A ROLE-PLAYING HORROR GAME

I spent about two hours with MOTHERED, and the premise is genuinely creepy: you're Liana, fresh out of surgery, and the thing greeting you at home isn't quite right. Playing in first-person, you explore your house while this mannequin-mother watches, talks, and violates your sense of what's normal. The game leans on psychological dread rather than jump scares, which is smart given the budget. What doesn't work is the execution. The house is small, objectives are repetitive (fetch items, listen to dialogue), and the horror loses its edge fast once you realize the mannequin won't actually do much. There's a story trying to happen beneath the surface about motherhood and recovery, but it gets lost in filler walking and redundant interactions. It's an interesting idea that needed either more environmental storytelling or a sharper pacing to land the way it wanted. Worth a look if you're hunting for experimental indie horror, but don't expect it to linger.
