The first hour is mostly menus, downloads, and a cockpit full of switches nobody has explained to you. You will sit on a taxiway wondering why the engine won't spool, or bounce a Cessna off a runway three times before something clicks. Push through it. The 40th Anniversary Edition hands you the whole planet, streamed and photogrammetry-dressed, plus the things sim fans spent decades asking for: gliders and their thermal hunting, helicopters with genuinely fussy collective control, and a set of classic aircraft going back to the earliest days of the series. The flight model rewards patience in a way arcade flyers never do. Where it disappoints is everything around the flying. Streaming quality swings with your connection, the tutorials stop teaching right when things get complicated, and helicopter handling in particular expects you to go find a YouTube instructor. This is a sandbox, not a game with goals, so if you need objectives and progression you will bounce off it fast. But as a thing to sit inside for an hour at sunset over terrain you actually recognize, nothing else touches it.
