Arc System Works brings Marvel's heaviest hitters to a 4v4 tag fighter with real depth - but on PC, a mandatory PSN requirement and performance issues are poisoning the well before many players even throw a punch.

I went into Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls half-expecting a flashy licensed cash-grab. What I found instead was a genuinely considered fighting game with a tag system that rewards experimentation and punishes tunnel vision - at least when it actually runs properly. The core structure works like this: you build a team of four Marvel characters, but you don't start with all four active. Matches open with your leader and an assist partner, and you gradually unlock the rest of your squad mid-fight by meeting conditions like racking up damage or triggering Wall Breaks that physically shatter arena boundaries and shift the fight into a new area. It is a clever, escalating format that makes every round feel like it is building toward something. The Assemble Gauge drives your assists, and crucially, you designate each teammate's assist type during character select - Forward Assists throw out projectiles to pressure opponents, while Downward Assists are tuned for anti-air coverage. Swapping into an assist character via a Crossover, timed just before or after landing a hit, is where the system starts to sing. The 20-character launch roster spans Spider-Man, Carnage, Doctor Doom, Magneto, Peni Parker, Magik, Ghost Rider, and more, with each character carrying distinct mechanics. Carnage's symbiote Necrosis debuff and Parasite Bomb, Shuri's Bast's Blessing Gauge pressure, Storm's advanced zoning - there is enough variety here to fuel weeks of team-building. Quick Skill inputs let newcomers fire off specials with single button presses, while traditional Command Inputs reward veterans with slightly higher damage and better Skill Gauge generation. The accessibility ramp is real, and it works. Off the competitive floor, the game offers an arcade-style Arcadia Rumble mode with offline and online play, item-based fight modifiers, and Episode story modes that give individual characters some narrative presence. Rollback netcode is in place for online ranked and casual queues, with cross-platform play between PS5 and PC. On PlayStation hardware, critics have largely praised the experience - scores cluster in the high 80s to 90 range from outlets who reviewed the PS5 version. The PC launch is a different conversation. Here is the problem if you are buying on Steam: the Mixed rating sitting at roughly 42 percent positive is being shaped by two things. First, a mandatory PSN account requirement that has triggered a review-bombing campaign from PC players who have been through this before with other PlayStation PC ports. Second, genuine performance issues that the developer acknowledged within 24 hours of launch and said it is actively investigating. These are not minor complaints - poor PC performance does not just affect the player running the game poorly, it degrades the online experience for PS5 players as well, since cross-platform matchmaking is the default. PS5 users are currently being advised to disable crossplay as a workaround. Whether these issues get patched quickly matters enormously for whether this version is worth your money right now. The fighting game itself, under all of that launch noise, appears to be the real thing. Arc System Works built something that respects both the Marvel IP and the genre's competitive ceiling, with a tag system fresh enough to stand apart from the Marvel vs. Capcom lineage it is clearly in conversation with. If you are on PS5, this is a strong recommendation with minor caveats around online consistency. If you are on PC, the honest answer is: wait for a patch, watch the Steam reviews update over the next two to three weeks, and then decide. Alex, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
