The real question is whether you're buying this as a sports fan who needs the latest season's players, or as a casual console gamer looking for something to pick up. If you're the former and still running an older Madden, this is a natural upgrade. If you're the latter, you won't miss much by skipping it. It's a competent football game that doesn't exceed expectations, and in a series that releases every year, competence alone isn't always enough to convince.
