The first time I unlocked a new power for my custom villain and immediately used it to smash through a puzzle I'd been circling for ten minutes, the appeal snapped into focus. That's the base game in a sentence: a breezy open-hub brick brawler where you play the bad guys, build one of your own, and stack up collectibles at whatever pace suits you. It's built for kids and for two people on one couch, and it knows it. The Deluxe tier is the base game plus its season pass character packs, and that's about the whole story. Those packs are roster filler: extra playable faces lifted from DC films and shows, good for an hour of swapping abilities around, irrelevant to the campaign or to how anything actually plays. If you've got a kid who will name every character on screen, that hour is worth something. Anyone buying this for themselves should take the standard edition and stop thinking about it.
