About Kotodama: The 7 Mysteries of Fujisawa
I went in expecting standard visual novel static-image pacing and got something weirder: Kotodama drops you into Fujisawa Academy's mystery casebook, then forces you to extract the truth through syllable-matching battles. You quiz suspects, they deflect, and you win by assembling the right Japanese syllables into gotcha words that break their alibis. It's novel-length mystery-box storytelling wrapped around a puzzle-game core that keeps investigation from feeling like busywork. The hook works because the word puzzles feel like actual detective logic rather than random minigame taxation. Downside: the story's pacing sags in the middle act, and the high-school mystery-box premise doesn't break enough new ground to carry weak dialogue. But if you want a visual novel that makes you *solve* plot instead of just reading it, Kotodama's odd hybrid approach earned my time.
