The dogfight is decided long before you pull the trigger, and it took three flat spins for me to accept that. Bring patience, a pad or a headset, and a taste for physics.

Forty minutes into my third campaign sortie I hauled the stick back at the top of a climb, felt the wing quit on me, and watched the horizon start turning like a record. Twelve thousand feet of altitude became four thousand while I worked out that getting out of a spin here is boring and procedural: centre the controls, feed in opposite rudder, wait, then unload and fly out of it. That was the moment the whole thing clicked. Lining up the guns is the easy part. Arriving at the piece of sky where lining up the guns is even possible is the actual game. That design choice runs through everything. Speed is currency in these early jets, and the fights that go badly are the ones where you spent it all in the opening thirty seconds and had nothing left to trade. A hard pull bleeds you. A dive banks more. The aircraft of this era accelerate slowly enough that a bad decision at minute two is still costing you at minute five, which is a very different rhythm from arcade air combat where the whole skill ceiling is holding the tightest turn. If that is where you are coming from, budget two or three hours of feeling worse at a genre you thought you understood. It is not a bug in the design. It is the product. The reassuring part, and the reason I would not scare a newcomer off this, is that the scaffolding is genuinely there. Difficulty is adjustable rather than take-it-or-leave-it, and the game is built to be played on a pad, with full controller support plus DualShock and DualSense handling in the box. A lot of this subgenre quietly assumes you own a stick, a throttle and rudder pedals. This one assumes you might have a controller and a sofa, and it does not treat that as the lesser experience. VR is supported too, and in any cockpit game the ability to simply look at the thing you are fighting does more for your survival rate than any HUD element ever will. If you own a headset, that is the version to fly. The mission editor is the piece I would weigh heaviest when deciding whether this is a fifteen hour purchase or a three hundred hour one. Sims of this size do not survive on their shipped campaign, they survive on what people build afterwards, and a level editor in the box is the difference between a game with a shelf life and a game with a scene. The same logic applies to multiplayer: there is online PvP for anyone who wants their bad habits punished by humans, and co-op campaign missions for anyone who would rather learn alongside a friend than get gunned down by a stranger with four hundred hours in the cockpit. Both are worth far more if the population holds. At 382 reviews sitting around 74 percent positive, this is a smaller release than the flight sims you have heard of, and thin lobbies are the honest risk you are taking. Where it disappoints: the single-theatre focus that makes the flight model feel so coherent also leaves mission variety narrow by the back half, and the AI opponents are more consistent than they are surprising. Learn the two or three patterns they fly and the ceiling on a fight against them arrives well before the ceiling on flying the aeroplane itself. The campaign reads as a training ground for the multiplayer and the editor rather than a destination of its own, and I would go in framing it that way. None of that undoes the core, which is a flight model that rewards patience and thinking two moves ahead, wrapped in options that let a curious beginner turn the dial down without being locked out of the good stuff later. Fly it slow, drill the spin recovery early, and that 74 percent starts making sense. Diego, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
