About King's Bounty II Lord's Edition
Give this one a few hours before you judge it, because it front-loads almost everything it does badly. You walk a hero (one of three, each with a different starting bent) around a third-person fantasy world at a jog, collecting quests and recruiting units, and only then do you drop into the turn-based hex battles that are the actual reason to be here. Those battles are still good. Stacks of archers, cavalry and mages counter each other in ways you can read at a glance, losses are permanent until you pay to replenish, and the Order/Anarchy and Power/Finesse alignment system quietly gates which troops and skills you can field, so sloppy quest choices come back to bite you twenty hours later. The trouble is everything between fights. The open world is stiff, traversal is slow, dialogue is stilted, and the story never earns the runtime it takes. If you came from the older King's Bounty games and their bright, breezy exploration, the Lord's Edition extras won't paper over how much heavier this feels. Come for the army-building math, tolerate the rest, and you'll get your money's worth of tactical puzzles.
