The party trivia gap on Xbox is real, and this one fills it better than anything else in the genre on console, as long as you can tolerate your AI host occasionally grating on your nerves.

I went in expecting a serviceable trivia filler and came out genuinely surprised by how much thought went into the structure here. The team behind this game includes former Buzz! developers, and that pedigree shows in the way rounds are layered and the pace is managed. Rather than a flat parade of multiple-choice questions, the game rotates through a variety of round types across a six-round structure: a standard opener, middle rounds that include bluffing, deduction, matching, and a Describe mode where you speak words aloud while opponents tap matching answers on their phones, and then a high-stakes final round where speed both earns and costs you points. That last round alone has generated more comeback victories than feels statistically reasonable. The smartphone-as-controller setup is the right call for a party game in 2017 and beyond. No plastic buzzers to lose, no extra gamepads needed. Up to eight players join via a companion app on iOS or Android, and the whole thing reads as clean and accessible even for non-gamers in the room. The question bank is massive, comfortably north of 25,000 questions spread across thousands of categories ranging from geography and history to pop music and video games. The game also personalizes questions based on player age and interests, which is a genuinely clever touch that keeps grandparents and teenagers in the same competitive bracket. A Solo Score Attack mode posts results to global leaderboards for anyone who wants a reason to play without a crowd. And the Live Show mode, which lets you stream to Twitch or YouTube and compete against up to 10,000 viewers simultaneously, is probably the most forward-thinking feature a party quiz game had at the time of release. That said, the cracks are real and worth knowing about before you commit. The AI host Salli is the most divisive element, and the community has been split right down the middle on her since launch. She is designed in the vein of GLaDOS and HAL, a quiz host who finds humans faintly beneath her. On paper that is a great concept. In practice, her robotic delivery and repetitive mannerisms wear out their welcome faster than the question bank does. Some players find her charming; others spend the session wishing there was a volume control. The other persistent complaint across reviews is question quality within categories. The breadth of topics is impressive, but once you pick a specific category the individual questions can feel narrow and formulaic, sometimes cycling through variations of the same query in the same session. Hardcore trivia buffs who want carefully crafted, genuinely tricky questions will find it underpowered. The app-download requirement also adds a small friction that Jackbox-style browser access would have avoided entirely. Taken as a whole, this is the strongest dedicated quiz game on Xbox One, and the only serious competitor to the Jackbox Party Pack lineup in the console trivia space. It rewards a full room, it scales decently for two, and it has enough mode variety to stay interesting across multiple sessions. Go in with realistic expectations about Salli and the depth of individual category questions, and you will have a good time. Alex, Scout Team
