Hunt: Showdown 1896 - Bark, Bone and Blood
If you are already deep in Hunt's bayous, Iron Bark is the kind of feral, close-quarters hunter that makes you rethink your whole loadout. Pure cosmetic and character value, zero gameplay power shift.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth it for active Hunt players who want a cohesive feral-themed loadout; skip if you are not already hooked on the base game.

About Hunt: Showdown 1896 - Bark, Bone and Blood
I'll be straight with you: Bark, Bone and Blood is a DLC pack for a game that rewards obsessives, and it is aimed squarely at players who are already obsessed. If you have not yet put serious time into Hunt: Showdown 1896's PvPvE extraction loop, this is not your entry point. But if you have, and you are looking for a character whose lore actually matches the brutality of what happens in a match, Iron Bark is one of the more coherent hunter concepts Crytek has released. The pack bundles four items: the Iron Bark hunter, the Bonecutter (a reskin of the Caldwell Rival 78 shotgun), the Hunter's Guide (a reskinned LeMat revolver), and the Traitor's Tooth knuckle knife. Iron Bark's backstory is genuinely grim. Orphaned in winter, raised by wolves, forced to betray the pack to survive. It is the kind of character motivation that fits Hunt's atmosphere better than most, and the visual design carries that savagery through. The weapon skins are well crafted and thematically consistent, though they are skins, full stop. The Bonecutter is a Rival 78 by any other name, and the Hunter's Guide is still a LeMat. If you already run a shotgun-and-revolver build, these slot in cleanly and look good doing it. Context matters here. The base game's core loop, tracking boss monsters across corrupted bayous and mountain maps, collecting clues, surviving the banish phase, and extracting before rival hunters end your run, is one of the more genuinely tense experiences in the shooter genre right now. Permadeath means losing a leveled hunter strips their traits and gear permanently, so every firefight has real consequences. Sound design does heavy lifting: crows scatter, dogs bark, every footstep telegraphs your position to anyone listening. That foundational tension is what makes a hunter like Iron Bark feel meaningful to carry into a match, even if the weapon stats underneath the skins are unchanged. Where this DLC sits in the wider Hunt economy is worth thinking about. Crytek runs a cosmetic-only monetization model, so nothing here is pay-to-win, which the community has consistently appreciated. The flip side is that you are paying for aesthetics and lore. If the fiction does not hook you, or if you are indifferent to how your hunter looks while you are being ambushed from a flooded compound, the value proposition shrinks fast. The pack is a tight, coherent bundle for players who want to roleplay a feral wolf-man through the bayou. It is not essential, but among Hunt's cosmetic releases, the thematic consistency here is noticeably stronger than average. Bottom line: committed Hunt players who run shotgun-forward builds will find Iron Bark one of the more atmospheric hunters in the roster. Everyone else should make sure they are invested in the base game before spending anything on DLC.
