A generational roguelike where every turn burns a year of your hero's life. Fascinating budget math for about ten runs, then the late game runs out of decisions.

Rogue Legacy turned your bloodline into a progress bar. ReGen turns it into a budget problem, and that difference is the whole game. Each turn on the overworld spends one year of a lifespan counted in decades, so exploring ruins, clearing monsters, courting a mate and raising a child all draw from the same pool. Good play looks like a build order: scout early, marry mid-life for the traits you want inherited, bank a town upgrade that outlives you. The math holds for roughly ten runs. Then the ceiling shows. Combat resolves on stat checks with no AI worth outthinking, and the mixed Steam standing (60% positive across a small sample) reads like players who found the loop thin rather than broken. This 2016 remake piles on systems without deepening late-game decisions, and there is no mod ecosystem to patch that. The tutorial explains the clock but not the strategy, which is backwards for newcomers. Diego, Scout Team

Worth a weekend for legacy-system nerds; skip if you need AI and combat depth to carry the late game.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
