About Hearth and Hamlet
The upgrade tree is the reason to play this, and it holds up longer than it has any right to. Phorust Studios built a medieval citybuilder on idle-clicker bones, and the interesting part is how the research, law and trade systems layer on top of each other. Early on you are clicking a campfire and watching wood tick up. Forty minutes later you are choosing which technology unlocks first because the trade routes you want are gated behind a law you have not passed yet. That sequencing is the actual game, and it rewards planning your order rather than clicking harder. Where it disappoints is the middle. Once the tree opens up, the pacing flattens into waiting, and there is not enough AI pressure or event variety to fill the gap. Genuine strategy players will find the decision space narrower than the tag suggests: the choices are ordering choices, not competing ones, and there is rarely a wrong path. Released in August 2026 for PC and Linux, no mod support, singleplayer only. The 84 percent from 355 reviewers reads right to me. It knows what it is, does it cleanly, and does not pretend to be a 4X.
