Starni's turn-based layer is genuinely readable: helicopter gunships trade real risk for real reach, infantry actually matters as a screening tool, and the tutorial missions respect a newcomer instead of burying them in modifiers. Playing both sides is not cosmetic either, since the Soviet order of battle rewards a blunter push than NATO's careful overwatch game. If this is your entry point into wargaming, it is one of the friendlier doors on PC. Where reality parts from the pitch is depth. By mission ten I had a build order I stopped questioning, because the campaign rarely punishes it. The AI defends competently and attacks predictably, and with twenty scripted missions and no meaningful sandbox or mod scene there is little to chase afterwards. Split-screen and online PvP against a human is where the tactics finally bite back. The mixed Steam reception tracks: this is a solid weekend, not a 200-hour habit.
